THE STATE DOES NOT CONSIDER FESTIVALS AS A BIG BUSINESS – MIKHEIL GIORGADZE

“Unfortunately, the state does not consider this sector as one of the largest businesses,” said Mikheil Giorgadze, a former culture minister and co-founder of Eastern Promotion.

He said that the state has not realized the economic wealth that this industry creates for the country.

“Unfortunately, the state does not consider this field as one of the industries and part of the big business, as it is in the case of hotels or those businesses, which are related to tourism. However, festivals are probably one of the most effective tools, both domestic and international. To activate tourism, it is not just words and this is proved by financial income. Revenue from Batumi retail trade in June, July totals to 2-3 million, while the income is increased up to 10-12 million during the festivals. However, when the festivals are over, it returns to its ordinary level – 2-3 million. You can imagine how much additional income is added to the local economy,”- said Mikheil Giorgadze.
