The Ministry of Defence expenses will be cut down by 75 million Lari from which 30 million was supposed to be spent for French military production as part of an international agreement that is now postponed due to pandemic reasons, – the Chairperson of the Defence And Security Committee told the reporters. According to him, the ongoing talks aren’t about canceling the project and the expenses will be recorrected in the next year’s budget.

“We don’t talk about canceling the project but postponing the term. The Ministry of Defence expenses will be cut down by 75 million Lari from which 30 million was supposed to be spent for French military production as part of an international agreement that is now postponed due to pandemic reasons. Accordingly, as soon as there is a readiness for providing this product, we’ll recorrect the next year’s budget. This is an international agreement within which we get particular military products. Therefore, considering the pandemic, there was a problem with its supply and installation – the term for this was extended. However, the project will continue and, naturally, thanks to it, our defence will be strengthened. As soon as the post-crisis period passes, everything will restart, no project is being canceled”, – stated Sesiashvili.

For the record, the agreement in question was signed with France during Tina Khidasheli’s tenure at the Ministry of Defence.
